Tigers fall to Vikings on the road

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Dyer Barnes hauled in four passes for 45 yards and a touchdown, but Sewanee couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 53-10 to Berry College on Saturday in Mount Berry, Ga.

Jacorin Thomas led Sewanee's offense with 117 rushing yards on 18 carries while completing five passes for 37 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown to Barnes in the first quarter.

Kason Holder anchored Sewanee's defense with seven solo tackles, including five for a loss of seven yards. TJ Fields recorded six solo tackles and one assist, while Connor Maness registered the Tigers' lone sack of the day for a loss of six yards.

Berry quarterback Christian Lewis threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Vikings build a 22-0 lead in the first half. The Vikings scored on their first three possessions, including a 42-yard touchdown to Khamari Smith and a 51-yard strike to Brendan Gray.

Sewanee kicker Will Simpson added a 34-yard field goal in the third quarter, and Malcolm Shaw snagged an interception early in the fourth. Jack Satterfield contributed seven punts, averaging 40.3 yards per punt.

Sewanee will return home next Saturday to face Rhodes at 1 p.m. CT at Harris Stadium, kicking off a three-game homestand.
