Ashlyn Richards converted a penalty kick in the first half and
Brianna Fee added a goal in the second period in a 2-0 Sewanee victory over Rhodes College in women's soccer Friday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn.
The Tigers (9-1-4, 4-0-0 SAA) upped their unbeaten streak to seven outings with the win.
A cross from Fee into the box was knocked down by a Rhodes defender but she was called for a hand ball in the ninth minute. Richards buried the ensuing PK for a 1-0 Sewanee edge at the 8:20 mark of the first period.
The Tigers dominated possession for much of the half, posting a 6-0 advantage in shots, forcing four saves by Rhodes goalkeeper Olivia Barfield.
Fee added to the lead 19 minutes into the second half, taking a ball from a defender just outside the box. The senior took one touch and fired leftfooted low and right, past a diving Barfield for a 2-0 Sewanee advantage.
The Tigers continued to press for much of the period but were unable to find a third goal. The Lynx (9-3-0, 3-1-0) were finally able to take possession for much of the final 10 minutes of the match, creating three shots but all from distance.
Barfield finished with five saves against 10 total shots by the Tigers while Sewanee goalkeeper
Leah Atkins did not record a save.
Sewanee travels to Hendrix College for an 11 a.m. kickoff Sunday and returns home next Saturday for the regular season finale, taking on Centre College at Puett Field.
