Four Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes Garner College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Awards

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Four women's tennis student-athletes from the University of the South were recognized for their successes in the classroom on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team®, announced by the association on Tuesday. 

Ansley Carpenter, Brooke Despriet, Natalia Nassar and Nicole Nowak were listed from Sewanee. 

Formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), nominations are accepted by current dues-paying CSC members. To be nominated: 
  • A student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
  • Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
  • No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
Carpenter, a sophomore from Newnan, Ga., collected First Team recognition on the All-SAA Team last week and the second consecutive postseason accolade. Recording an 8-9 overall record in singles, she has a 22-15 mark in two seasons with the Tigers. 

A member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll, an ITA Scholar-Athlete and the University of the South's Dean's List, she is also a part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

She is majoring in Biology on the Ecology and Biodiversity track with a minor in Environment and Sustainability. 

Nassar, a senior from Bellaire, Texas, is a two-time All-SAA selection after earning an Honorable Mention this season with a 13-3 spring record. She ends her Sewanee career with a 37-11 mark in singles. In doubles, she tallied a career mark of 45-11. 

In the classroom, she is a two-time SAA Academic Honor Roll member and is a part of the University of the South Order of the Gown and Dean's List and is an ITA Scholar-Athlete. 

The duo of Nassar/Carpenter is 11th in the region with a 14-5 mark at the No. 2 flight. In two seasons, they posted a 36-7 record playing together on the court. 

Nassar plans to earn a degree in Psychology with a Spanish minor this weekend. 

Despriet, a sophomore from Cumming, Ga., will participate in her second straight NCAA Doubles Championship next week in Orlando. She has a doubles record this season of 19-6, including an 18-6 mark with partner Katherine Petty. Despriet is a two-time Doubles All-American. 

The duo is the top doubles team in the nation and won the ITA fall National Championship back in October. 

In singles, she has a record of 9-5 this season, including the clinching point against Case Western Reserve (Ohio) in the Round of 32 at the NCAA Championships on Saturday. 

She is a two-time All-SAA selection, earning Second Team status in 2023 and was the Newcomer of the Year in 2022. 

Majoring in Finance with a Philosophy minor, Despriet is a member of the Order of the Gown and the SAA Academic Honor Roll. 

Nowak, a junior from Alabaster, Ala. posted a doubles record of 23-4, including a 21-4 mark with partner Emma Smith. Ranked 23rd in the country, the duo finished the 2023 season with a 12-match winning streak. 

She garnered an Honorable Mention on the All-SAA Team this past season, as she has a career doubles record of 43-14. 

Majoring in Mathematics, she is a member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll, University of the South Dean's List and an ITA Scholar-Athlete. 

From the Southern Athletic Association, Berry College, Centre College, Millsaps College and the University of the South were listed, totaling 11 student-athletes. 

The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® programs. 

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 1.
