SEWANEE, Tenn. - Announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday, four student-athletes from the University of the South were listed on the CSC Academic All-District Team®.
Pearse Lucas from the men's golf program and
Ashton Anton,
Jake Cohen and
Carlton Ward were recognized.
The At-Large Program is selected from the following NCAA-sanctioned sports:
- Women's Beach Volleyball
- Women's Bowling
- Women's Crew/Rowing
- Men's and Women's Fencing
- Women's Field Hockey
- Men's and Women's Golf
- Men's and Women's Gymnastics
- Men's and Women's Ice Hockey
- Men's and Women's Lacrosse
- Men's and Women's Rifle
- Men's and Women's Skiing
- Men's Volleyball
- Men's and Women's Water Polo
- Men's Wrestling
Formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), nominations are accepted by current dues-paying CSC members. To be nominated:
- A student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
- Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
- No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
Lucas, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., is a two-time PING All-Region, SAA Player of the Year and All-SAA First Team. He was also named the National Freshman of the Year and an All-American in 2022.
Ranked 29th in the latest GolfStat rankings in 2023, Lucas qualified as an individual for the NCAA Championships last week. In 26 rounds, he fired a 73.5 stroke average, including two top-five finishes at the Rhodes Fall Invitational (213, fifth) and the Visit Florence Collegiate (213, third).
Anton, a senior from Houston, Texas, garnered First Team All-SAA Honors in 2023 after scoring 23 goals and added five assists. Playing the midfield, he also added 15 ground balls.
Earning a degree in Finance, he is a member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the Dean's List.
Cohen, a junior from Greenwich, Conn., collected Second Team honors on the All-SAA team as a short-stick defensive midfielder. Forcing 11 turnovers and picking up 30 ground balls, he added three points thanks to two assists and a goal.
A member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the Sewanee Dean's List, he is majoring in Environment and Sustainability with a Biology minor.
Ward, a sophomore from Roanoke, Va., had 15 ground balls and nine caused turnovers as a defensive midfielder this in 2023.
A member of the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the Order of the Gown, he also has been included on the University of the South Dean's List. He is majoring in Finance.
From the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), 15 student-athletes were recognized from Berry, Centre, Millsaps and Sewanee.
The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® programs.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 21.
