MEMPHIS - The University of the South men's lacrosse team used an overtime goal by
Ashton Anton to lift the Tigers to a 9-8 victory over Rhodes College on Sunday from Crain Field.
Now 4-0 in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play, the Tigers can clinch the regular season crown with a win on Saturday, April 8 against Berry and a Centre loss versus Oglethorpe.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Tied at two goals apiece late in the first quarter, the Lynx used a Connor Casey goal to make it 3-2 with less than a minute remaining in the stanza.
-In the second quarter, after a delay of game penalty, Rhodes took advantage of the man-up opportunity to improve the score to 4-2.
-The Lynx made it 6-3 with a late goal by Dylan Farley at the halftime horn.
-Trailing 7-4 with four minutes left in the third, after Rhodes turned the ball over on the face off,
Will Wyckoff scored the Tigers' fifth goal of the afternoon and trailed 7-5 after 45 minutes.
-In the first five minutes of the fourth stanza,
Davis Gillenwater and
Luke Valentine helped even the score at seven goals apiece.
-However, after a Sewanee violation on the face off, the Lynx reclaimed the lead.
-The Purple Tigers evened the game with an
Ashton Anton goal with 5:40 remaining.
-From there, neither team could find the back of the cage, and the contest was forced into overtime.
-For Sewanee, it is the third overtime game of the season, and the Tigers started the extra period off strong by winning the opening face off.
-45 seconds later, Anton's second goal of the game and 20th of the season gave the Purple and White the victory. For Anton, it is the third game-winning goal of the 2023 campaign.

Joe Orem added two forced turnovers and four ground balls.

Greg Ix (8-3) stopped 12 shots in the overtime win.

-Conor Casey and Dyla Farley posted two goals each to lead Rhodes. Jake Gobel won 11-of-20 face offs.
