Women's Lacrosse Drops Conference Contest to Berry

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's lacrosse team was defeated on Saturday by Berry College, 20-12, in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play, Saturday from Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Each team secured a goal in the first four minutes of the game, but the Vikings secured the 3-1 lead with 8:31 left in the opening period. 

-The Tigers tied the game up at four thanks to goals by Marlin Price and Emma Burns, but the visitors made it a 7-4 lead at the end of the quarter. 

-Trailing 10-6 with 6:24 left in the half, Lizzie Chamberlin netted a free position strike. Four minutes later, Burns made it 10-8 on a free position goal. 

-After Sewanee turned the ball over, Price found the back of the cage to cut the deficit to 10-9 with 1:12 left in the half. 

-Berry made it 11-9 on a goal by Haley Larsen, and that would be the score going into the locker room. 

-The visitors essentially put the game away with a five-goal third quarter and limiting the Tigers to no goals allowed in the period. 

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Brooke Sigmon tallied a hat trick and won three draw controls. 

-Emma Burns scored twice on free positions. Her second goal of the game was the 100th in her career, becoming the eighth player all-time to net 100 in a career. 

-Lauren Stallings and Jessica Morgan Southworth tallied three forced turnovers each. 

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Jaden Russell and Katie Claire Smith each scored four times for the Vikings. Haley Larsen also added a hat trick and 13 draws. 

UP NEXT
Sewanee will hit the road next Saturday for a conference matchup with Hendrix College.
