SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's lacrosse team was defeated on Saturday by Berry College, 20-12, in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play, Saturday from Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Each team secured a goal in the first four minutes of the game, but the Vikings secured the 3-1 lead with 8:31 left in the opening period.
-The Tigers tied the game up at four thanks to goals by
Marlin Price and
Emma Burns, but the visitors made it a 7-4 lead at the end of the quarter.
-Trailing 10-6 with 6:24 left in the half,
Lizzie Chamberlin netted a free position strike. Four minutes later, Burns made it 10-8 on a free position goal.
-After Sewanee turned the ball over, Price found the back of the cage to cut the deficit to 10-9 with 1:12 left in the half.
-Berry made it 11-9 on a goal by Haley Larsen, and that would be the score going into the locker room.
-The visitors essentially put the game away with a five-goal third quarter and limiting the Tigers to no goals allowed in the period.

Brooke Sigmon tallied a hat trick and won three draw controls.

Emma Burns scored twice on free positions. Her second goal of the game was the 100th in her career, becoming the eighth player all-time to net 100 in a career.

Jessica Morgan Southworth tallied three forced turnovers each.
BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Jaden Russell and Katie Claire Smith each scored four times for the Vikings. Haley Larsen also added a hat trick and 13 draws.

Sewanee will hit the road next Saturday for a conference matchup with Hendrix College.
