SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South baseball team dropped a Saturday doubleheader to Birmingham-Southern College, 9-1 and 7-2, from Montgomery Field in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opener for both squads.
Birmingham-Southern, who made it to a super regional last season in the NCAA Championships, is currently ranked second in the latest D3baseball.com poll and fourth in the preseason poll administered by
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-In the opener, the Panthers took a 4-0 lead thans to a three-run second inning.
-Sewanee got on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to a base hit by
Blake Pou to score
Luke Short.
-BSC avoided the shut-down inning with a run in the fourth before added three in the sixth and a run in the seventh.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the nightcap, BSC took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the third. Sewanee would respond with two runs in the bottom half. After a base hit by
Hunter Herndon to score
Blake Pou,
Charlie Teel brought Herndon home with a base knock through the right side.
-However, for the Panthers, they added two runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth to complete the sweep.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-In the second game,
Hunter Herndon posted a 3-for-4 day, while
TJ Meyn and
Blake Pou each had two hits.
Will Yarbro's lone hit of the day was a triple.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Ian Hancock had a perfect day at the plate in game two, going 4-for-4 with a double and home run. Andrew Dutton had a 4-for-5 performance in game one with three RBI.
