ATLANTA - The University of the South women's lacrosse team were defeated by Oglethorpe University in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play, on Saturday, as the Stormy Petrels edged the Tigers, 18-17, in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Petrels had the offense going to start the game by netting the first four goals of the period.
-Trailing 4-0 with 2:08 left in the period,
Raleigh Cooper got the Purple Tigers on the board with a free position goal.
-After Oglethorpe limited Sewanee to one goal on five shots in the opening quarter, the Tigers bounced back in the second period with five goals on 10 shots.
Alexa Berg started the scoring in the stanza from an
Emma Burns pass with 12:46 left in the half.
-After a man-up goal by
Marlin Price and a man-down goal by
Brooke Sigmon to make it a 5-4 deficit, Sewanee's Price evened the game at five goals apiece with 6:17 left in the half.
-Sewanee won the ensuing draw by Price, and
Emma Burns went down the field and scored to give the Tigers their first lead of the day with 5:15 left in the half.
-OU responded with back-to-back goals late in the period to reclaim the lead, 7-6, at the break.
-The Purple and White started the third stanza on a 5-0 run in the first five minutes to lead 11-7.
-However, the see-saw battle continued, as the Petrels went on a run to reclaim the lead, 12-11, with 3:52 left in the stanza.
-Following a
Cat Lamm draw control, Sewanee tied the game again with a
Marlin Price goal, and that score would hold up going into the final period.
-Starting the fourth quarter with an extra man opportunity, Sewanee took advantage. After Burns picked up the ground ball on a turnover, she gave the Tigers the lead again with a man-up goal.
-The Petrels reclaimed the lead, 14-13, with 8:48 left in regulation on back-to-back free position shots.
-Trailing 15-13 with less than four minutes left, Sewanee evened the game at 15 with goals by
Casey Thomsen and a free position goal by Sigmon.
-Oglethorpe tried to put the game away with two goals with under a minute remaining. However, the Tigers did not quit. With 47 seconds left, Price won the draw and Cooper found Sigmon's pass to make it 17-16 with 38 seconds remaining in regulation.
-Price picked up the draw control, and a foul in the eight-meters gave
Sally Herrington a free position opportunity, which she took advantage of to tie the game at 17.
-After Sewanee won the draw control again, this time by Sigmon, the visitors had another free position opportunity with five seconds left in regulation. However, Thomsen's shot was wide, and the game was forced into overtime.
-Oglethorpe started the extra period with a draw control win and later scored 49 seconds into the extra period for the victory.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Marlin Price won 10 draw controls and scored five points with four goals. Two of her strikes came via free-position.
-
Emma Burns tallied five points with three goals and two assists, while
Brooke Sigmon had four points (two goals and assists each) and added five draw controls.
OGLETHORPE KEY STATISTICS
-Makenna Bowens and Anna Ramsden each had four goals and an assist to lead the Petrel offense.
-Sydney Trammell won eight draws, and Tori Perez stopped 15 shots in goal.

The University of the South will be back on its home turf for the next five games, starting with Hope College (Mich.) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from Puett Field.
