ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released on Monday afternoon its weekly award winners for women's tennis. For the University of the South, the program took both weekly awards:
Brooke Despriet in singles and
Natalia Nassar and
Ansley Carpenter in doubles.
Brooke Despriet, SAA Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Winning both of her matches in singles, the sophomore defeated No. 46 Izzy Kozoil of Washington and Lee, 6-2, 6-3. The Generals opened the 2023 season ranked 21st in the nation.
On Friday, she also picked up a straight-set victory versus No. 23 Christopher Newport's Terssa Trate, 6-2, 7-6 (7).
For Despriet, it is the third time she has garnered Singles Player of the Week in her career.
Natalia Nassar and
Ansley Carpenter, SAA Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
The duo picked up their winning ways from last season. Posting a 20-2 doubles record, the team went unbeatedn in spring regular season matches.
Improving that mark to 16 straight with two wins at the No. 2 flight over the team's first weekend of play. After shutting out Megan Bauer/Mia lInam of No. 23 Christopher Newport, the tandem picked up an 8-3 win of Washington and Lee's Koziol/Riho Iljima.
Now 22-2 all-time in career doubles contests, Carpenter and Nassar won the weekly award for the third time in their respective careers.
The Tigers return home to open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with Centre on Saturday from the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Center.
