HOW IT HAPPENED
-Being down 2-0 did not phase Sewanee early in this contest. Sewanee did strike in the bottom of the second, as
Will Yarbro scored on a double play.
-In the third, the Purple and White took the lead for good with a five-run inning. After a base hit by
Blake Pou and a
Hunter Herndon free pass,
Jack Roode, with the wind blowing out to right field, sent one over the right field fence for a three-run homer.
-Sewanee added two more on an RBI double by
Mike Lewishall and an RBI knock by
Oliver Snell.
-Despite the Griffins making the contest a 6-5 affair after three and a half innings, that would be as close as they would get. From there, the Tigers scored in each inning. In the fourth, Roode laced a base hit to score Herndon, and in the fifth, Lewishall's second double of the game brought home Yarbro.
-After three more runs scored in the sixth, the Tigers' had the final blow in the seventh. With the bases juiced and Sewanee up 12-5, Roode found the wind again and put the game in a run-rule affair with a grand slam.
