SEWANEE, Tenn. – Russ Marr tallied 23 points and shot 80 percent from both the field and beyond the yard as the Tigers picked up a win against Centre in the conference opener in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Sewanee, Tenn.

Tre Corrigan opened the scoring for Sewanee sinking two threes in the first two and a half minutes of the game. The first four points for the Tigers came from beyond the yard, with Graham Smith and Cody Baerlocher sinking the next two for Sewanee. The Tigers created a seven-point lead with a minute and a half left in the first of a layup from Blake Bouldin, but the Colonels cut their lead to five from the charity stripe in the remaining minutes of the half. Centre collected 10 points from free throws in the first half and the Tigers ended the first half shooting 47 percent from three, netting nine three-pointers, and 48 percent from the field.

In the second half, the Colonels came out strong as they cut the Tigers' lead and got their first lead with just under 15 minutes left, but the Tigers responded with a three of their own, gaining the lead back. Centre tied the game at 51 all with an extra point from the line, but the Tigers responded with seven unanswered points to gain control back. The Colonels created two more chances to come within striking distance, cutting the Tigers' lead to one, but Sewanee was able to find a response both times staying ahead of Centre. The Tigers closed out the game on the line, as Corrigan and Bigham connected on both of their free throws, building their lead to nine and closing out the game, 86-77.
