Cody Baerlocher posted 27 points with five-pointers, leading four players in double figures, and Sewanee ended the first half with a 23-4 run and never looked back in a 97-78 victory over LaGrange College in the Rhodes Holiday Classic on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.
Baerlocher scored 19 of his 27 points in the first half, making 5-of-7 from behind the arc, and netting 11 points during the decisive run to end the opening half.
Sewanee led 32-25 with just under six minutes left in the first half before ending the period on a 23-4 spurt.
Tre Corrigan made a triple and
Blake Bouldin posted a layup before Baerlocher netted 11 consecutive points, including three 3-pointers and a field goal. The Tigers scored the final seven points as well, including a layup by
Ben Folk with 32 seconds remaining, for a 55-29 advantage at intermission.
The Tigers put together an 11-0 run early in the game for a 21-10 advantage, with Baerlocher hitting a 3-pointer and a layup and
Graham Smith adding two free throws and a dunk, but LaGrange answered with eight consecutive points.
Rashaun Williams connected on four foul shots to begin a 19-6 run in the second half.
Reid Carrier and Smith made consecutive 3-pointers before two foul shots by Baerlocher and another triple, this from by Williams, who added two more free throws, stretching the Sewanee advantage to 81-47.
Williams collected 15 points for the Tigers, making 8-for-11 at the foul line, while Smith finished with 13 points and Corrigan added nine. Carrier recorded nine points as well for Sewanee, which hit 13-of-25 from 3-point range for the game and 55 percent from the field overall in the contest.
The Tigers play a nonconference game against Rhodes on Monday at 1 p.m., the team's final game before Christmas.
