Tigers drop five-set match on the road

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Emma Meyer posted a double-double as the Tigers fell in a tough five-set match against Rhodes in Memphis, Tenn. on Sunday afternoon. 

Emma Meyer recorded 23 assists and 10 digs against Rhodes for her ninth double-double of the season. She also picked up two aces and one kill. 

Sewanee had four players who hit above .250, Charlotte Lee leading the Tigers with eight kills on 16 swings with only one error. Ashley Crosby hit  .355 on 14 kills. She also tallied two blocks and three digs. Olivia Jones recorded 11 kills, two service aces, five blocks, and three digs to round out an exceptional weekend of stats. 

Jacqueline Weller also posted 10 kills, 10 digs, two service aces, and two blocks. Adele Cassidy again led Sewanee's defense as she recorded 23 digs, two assists, and one ace for the match. Defensive specialist Sophia Caruso posted four aces, two assists, and 11 digs. 

The Tigers started out slow and made seven errors in both the first and second sets as Rhodes took the opening sets, 23-25 and 17-25. However, Sewanee came out strong in the third and built themselves an 11-3 lead and were able to keep their momentum as they came away with the third, 25-11. In the fourth set, Sewanee again built themselves a 10-3 lead and ran away with the score as they found themselves at 24-15. However, Rhodes made a late seven-point run to get within two points of the Tigers but Sewanee was finally able to close out the set 25-22. In the final set, a seven-point run by the Lynx put the Tigers in trouble as they were unable to come back from a 5-7 deficit and fell in the deciding set, 8-15. 

The Tigers return to the Mountain for their senior night against No.25 Covenant on Thursday at 6 p.m. to close out regular season play before the start of the conference tournament.
