Men's Basketball Takes Down Hendrix in Friday Night SAA Showdown

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's basketball team posted an 87-73 victory over Hendrix College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest, Friday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-A back-and-forth bout fo the first eight minutes, Sewanee got out to a 17-12 lead on free throws by Russ Marr

-Tied at 22 with under eight minutes left in the opening half, the Tigers went on a 10-4 run to lead by seven, 33-26, with 4:30 left in the half. 

-Sewanee pushed the lead to 14 with a 46-32 lead at the halftime break. 

-The Purple and White got out to a strong second half with a 21-point lead, 55-45 with 16:37 left in the period, but the Warriors cut the deficit down to seven 66-59 with 10 minutes left in the contest. 

-However, the Tigers rode the ship and rolled to a 14-point win.



SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Russ Marr, the seventh-best scorer in the country entering play this weekend, scored his season average on Friday, dropping 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting and a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. On ball control, he added three thefts and two blocks. 

-Colin Kahl dropped 18 points and grabbed seven boards. Tre Corrigan had 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 4-of-8 from downtown, while Luka Avaliani also had 15 and grabbed eight boards. 

-Scoring 54.4% from the field (31-of-57) in the contest, the Tigers, who are shooting a league-best 49.2% from the field, have had seven games of 50% shooting or better. 

HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Tyler Deithloff led all scorers with 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting and added 11 boards. 

UP NEXT
Sewanee returns to action on Sunday afternoon with Rhodes College. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium.
