ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) announced on Monday afternoon that
Russ Marr was named the SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Selected by the league office, it is the third time this season the sophomore has achieved Player of the Week status.
In Sewanee's 75-69 win over Birmingham-Southern, Marr recorded his sixth 25-plus point game of the season with a 29-point effort on 10-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-7 from downtown. On ball control, the sophomore posted three steals and two blocks.
Sunday in the rout versus Millsaps, Marr scored 13 points in 29 minutes with seven rebounds and two blocks.
For the weekend, Marr shot 14-of-24 from the field with 7-of-14 from beyond the arc with four blocks and three steals.
The Bryant, Ala. native leads the SAA in scoring (21.9), field goals made (144), and 3-point field goals made (60). Additionally, he is second in free throws made (94) and tied for second in blocks (28).
On a national level, Marr is ninth in the nation in total points with 437, and he is only 20 behind national leader Lyle Tipton of Geneva College (Pa.) after this weekend's games. His 21.8 points per game and his 60 triples are both good for 14th in the country.
Marr and the rest of the Tigers return to action this weekend on the road. Sewanee, who currently holds second place in the SAA standings, will head west to take on Hendrix on Rhodes.
