SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South football team fell to Washington and Lee University, 44-0, in the 70th meeting between the two schools, Saturday from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-W&L got out to a 10-0 lead after scoring a 48-yard touchdown on its first possession and later adding a 40-yard field goal.
-The Generals posted 14 more points in the second stanza to lead 24-0 at the half before sealing the game with 20 more in the final period.
-In the third quarter, the defenses on both sides of the ball were out. Four straight possessions led to a turnover, and the fifth, W&L was stalled on fourth down and Sewanee got the ball back on downs.
-To start the second half,
Kason Holder recovered a fumble and
Parker Ray picked up the ball. Later,
Harris Cravens, at the Sewanee 15-yard-line, picked off Stephen Murrin's pass.
-Sewanee ran 69 plays on the day for a total of 266 yards. Last week, the WLU defense saw 318 yards on 64 plays versus Christopher Newport (Va.).
-Sewanee continues to chew up the possession clock after two weeks of the 2022 season. The Tigers posted a 32:36 time of possession, including over 11 minutes in the first quarter.

Michael McGhee posted 93 yards on the ground with 17 carries.

Gray Nischwitz posted 111 yards on 14-of-25, while
Dagem Samuel caught 67 yards on six receptions.

Michael Showalter led the defense with eight tackles with 0.5 for a loss.
Kason Holder also added seven tackles, one for a loss, and a fumble recovery.

Harris Cravens totaled six stops and an interception, while
Keegan Glaze also had a forced fumble.
WASHINGTON AND LEE KEY STATISTICS
-Alex Wertz led the offense for W&L with 145 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns. Stephen Murrin tallied 82 yards and scored twice.
