Sewanee, Tenn: The University of the South's Women's Soccer team used a dominating performance on the opening night of the season to defeat nearby rival Covenant College 1-0.

- Sewanee celebrated 50 years of Women's sports at the University of the South by honoring the inaugural class of Trailblazers at halftime.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

Caroline Pulliam finished a shot into the top of the net off of a feed from
Brianna Fee.
- The Tigers got off to a quick start, firing off four shots in the first eight minutes of the contest.
- The lone penalty shot was taken by
Ashlyn Richards, who's shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
- Sewanee took a total of 14 shots in the first half, with six of them being on goal.

Samantha Ferry led the game in shots taken with sisx, with four being on goal.

Abby Jones had a standout performance, not allowing Covenant to register a shot.
- Sewanee outshot their opponents 29-0.
COVENANT KEY STATISTICS:
- Goalkeeper Lucy Sandhoff kept the Scots in the game by making 14 saves on the night.

"On a night with the emotions of a first game of the regular season and the celebration of the Athletics Department Trailblazers we played a very complimentary brand of soccer that was fun to watch. We created a lot of opportunities on goal and finally broke through in the second half with Caroline's goal. Hopefully we can continue playing quality soccer into the weekend," said Head Coach

Sewanee continues their homestand by welcoming three teams to the Mountain this weekend for the Sewanee Women's Soccer Tournament. Maryville, Mount Saint Joseph, and Adrian will all be competeting. The Tigers play Mount Saint Joseph on Saturday, Septmeber 3rd at 6pm, and Adrian on Sunday, Spetember 4th at 12:30pm.
