Box Score Maryville, Tenn: The University of the South Men's Soccer team rode an early start enroute to a 3-0 season opening victory on the road against Maryville.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Will Hawgood opened the scoring up in the 8th minute of the game when he stole the ball from the Maryville goalkeeper and put it in the back of the net.
- The Sewanee defense held their ground, weathering eight shots from Maryville in the first half.
- Senior
JP Furman made two of his four saves in the first half.
- The Tigers outshot their opponents 6-5 in the second half.

Payne Gridley doubled the Tigers lead in the 71st minute with a strike from outside the box that knocked in off the corss bar.
- Six minutes later,
Trevor Reichman increased the Sewanee lead to 3-0 with a finish in the box off of a cross.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS:
- Furman finished with four saves.
- The Tigers avenged a defeat from a year ago after losing 3-2 in extra time.
MARYVILLE KEY STATISTICS:
- Mykal Manfred recorded two saves.
- Maryville outshot the Tigers 13-12.

"I am really proud of the boys effort and grit tonight. Our bench come on and it allowed us to press relentlessly for 90 minutes. We are proud of the result and will enjoy it until we get back to Sewanee and then our entire focus shifts on our match verse Piedmont Saturday," Head Coach
