Sewanee, TN: The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) announced the Women's Tennis All Conference teams and major season awards on Friday, May 13th. The University of the South swept the major awards and put five players on the First Team.
Alice Hall was named SAA Player of the Year, as well as to the First Team.
Brooke Despriet was named Newcomer of Year and to the First Team, and Conchie Shackleford was named Coach of the Year. Also named to the SAA First Team were
Ansley Carpenter,
Natalia Nassar, and
Emma Smith.
Hall was named Player of the Year after a stellar Freshman campaign. The Isle of Palms, SC native was undefeated in SAA singles play, and added a singles win against #9 Amherst. She and doubles partner Despriet went 13-2 in doubles play this season, including undefeated in conference play and wins against four ranked opponents.
Despriet was named Newcomer of the Year and to the First Team after a outstanding first season on the Mountain. A Cumming, GA native, she had a standout doubles season with Hall. In the singles realm, she went undefeated in conference play and helped the Tigers to another SAA championship.
Carpenter, a Freshman from Newnan, GA, was named to the First Team after a standout Freshman season. Her and Nassar, her doubles partner, went undefeated this season, including wins over six ranked teams. On the singles side, she went undefeated in conference play and notched two wins over ranked teams, in #16 Bowdoin, and #34 Babson.
Nassar, a Senior from Bellaire, TX, was a force in her last season on the Mountain. Her and Carpenter went undefeated in doubles play, and she went 12-3 in singles play, going undefeated in conference play and notching wins over three ranked opponents.
Smith, a Junior from Mount Pleasant, SC, was named to First Team after another strong season. She had a 10-3 record in doubles matches she was a part of, and rattled off 11 singles wins on the season. She was also undefeated in conference play and won three matches against ranked teams
This is Coach Shackleford's 5th SAA Coach of the Year Award. She has led the Tigers to a 20-3 record in the 2022 season.
