BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of the South baseball team played two games on Friday in the 2022 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament. Sewanee dropped a winner's bracket contest to Hendrix College, 4-3, and fell in an elimination game to Birmingham-Southern College, 9-5, Friday from Striplin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED, HENDRIX
-Sewanee tacked on two runs in the top of the third. After a
TJ Meyn base knock to lead off the frame,
Sully McCreery laced a base hit to right field, but it was mishandled by the Hendrix outfielder. Meyn would scamper around the bases for the score.
-Next,
Carter Huffman brought McCreery home on a base hit to give the Tigers the 2-0 edge.
-In the seventh, Sewanee added an insurance run. After
Jack Roode led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch,
Luke Short moved him up to second on a sac bunt and McCreery poked a base hit for the RBI.
-Leading 3-0,
Holden Shell came in the bottom of the seventh and struck out the side. However, it was a different story in the eighth. The Warriors put together four runs to take the lead, 4-3.
-Despite a two-out single by Roode, the Tigers were retired in the ninth and were sent to the eliminiation game later on Friday.

TJ Meyn each tallied a hit and run scored.

Matt Munn took the no decision, but he did match season-highs in innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (7) on Friday.
HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Drake Job had a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
-Jacob Wagner (4-1) earned the win in relief, allowing just two hits and a run in 3.2 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED, BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN
-The homesteading Panthers, who defeated the Petrels in Oglethorpe three-plus hours prior to first pitch with Sewanee, kept the bats rolling in their second game of the day. In the bottom of the first, BSC tallied five runs in the inninn.
-Thanks to a leadoff free pass by
Mike Lewishall, he would later score on a groundout to get Sewanee on the board in the fourth, 5-1.
-The Tigers would get the contest back to a two-run deficit in the fifth thanks to the help of a BSC error.
Jack Ahlum would score on that error to make it a 5-2 game. Next,
Carter Huffman brought
TJ Meyn home on a sacrifice fly.
-For Sewanee, that would be as close as they would get to the lead, as the Pantthers added two in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the eighth.
-The Purple and White did add two runs in the eighth thanks to three more errors by the Panthers, who enter Saturday with 11 errors in three games so far during the tournament.
-Lewishall would score on a throwing error. Later, Ahlum reached base on an error and
Jack Roode came home on the play.
