ROME, Ga. - The University of the South baseball team fell in a doubleheader sweep to Berry College, 14-9 and 7-1, in the first two games of a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series, Saturday from William Bowdoin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-Berry struck for five runs in the bottom of the first, but the lead would not last long for the home team. In the third, Sewanee sent 11 batters to the plate and put up a seven-run frame to swing the lead to the Tigers, 7-5.
-
Luke Short and
Sully McCreery put together back-to-back hits for extra bases. Short doubled down the left field line, and McCreery cleared the bases with a two-run triple.
-After a
Wesley House sacrifice fly to tie the game at five runs apiece,
Mac Gortney gave the Tigers the lead with a base hit to the outfield.
-After a shutdown bottom half of the frame by
Matt Munn, the Tigers' bats went back to work quickly as they added two more runs.
-With the bases loaded,
Jack Roode put the ball in play for a base hit to score
Mike Lewishall and Short.
-After Munn and Aiden Lenzen put up zeros for the next few innings, the Berry bats woke up again in the bottom of the seventh with a nine-run frame to give the home team the victory in the nine-inning affair.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-After a scoreless first inning, Sewanee had an opportunity to dent the scoreboard first thanks to a muffed throw by Berry. After a House sacrifice bunt,
Carter Huffman brought
Wade Sansone home on an RBI single.
-Berry would even the score at a run apiece in the bottom half of the inning, thanks to the help of an error that kept the frame alive.
-After the Purple and White left a runner in scoring position in the top of the third, the Vikings reclaimed the lead thanks to a triple.
-Berry essentially put the game away with a five-run bottom of the fifth.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Jack Roode,
Carter Huffman and
Luke Short each posted multi-hit games in game one. Roode had two RBI for the Tigers, while Short posted two runs scored.

Sully McCreery hit a triple, scored twice and drove in two runs.
-After Berry put up nine runs in the seventh inning of the opening game of the series,
Cy Spencer stopped the bleeding with a 1.1 innings of three-hit, shut out ball.
-Huffman posted a multi-hit game in the night cap with an RBI.

Logan Martin improved his ERA to 3.10 as he went the distance with one earned run allowed and striking out five.

-In game one, Spence Johns went 4-of-6 with two RBI in game one, while Zachary Hardee drove in two runs in the night cap.
