Hall, Nassar, Carpenter Sweep SAA Women's Tennis Weekly Awards

ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released on Thursday afternoon that the University of the South women's tennis team swept the player of the week honors for the conference. Alice Hall was named to the Singles Player of the Week, while Natalia Nassar and Ansley Carpenter were chosen as the Doubles Team of the Week.

Playing the number two point for Sewanee in its past matches this week, the freshman secured an exhibition win over Violetta Khisamova of Carson-Newman in straight sets. 

Over the weekend in Virginia, the Isle of Palms, S.C. native recorded wins over Raine Weis of Christopher Newport in straight sets before defeating No. 11 Gabi Moss in a third-set tie-break, 6-2, 3-6, 10-1. 

Ranked sixth in the Atlantic South region, Hall is 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in competitions this spring.

After knocking off Summer Reeves/Ana Carla Resende of Carson Newman in an exhibition, 8-5, the duo picked up two more wins on the road this past weekend. Playing the No. 2 flight, the duo recorded an 8-2 win of Kiersten Chang/Kendra Womack of Christopher Newport and an 8-3 victory against Becket Water/Gabi Moss of Washington and Lee. 

So far in 2022, Carpenter/Nassar is 4-1 on the campaign. 

The Purple Tigers remain undefeated on the young season (3-0) with a 9-0 win of the Captains on Feb. 19 and a 7-2 triumph of the Generals on Feb. 20. 

Sewanee, who earned a spot in the quarterfinals in the 2021 NCAA Championships, finished sixth in the final poll of the 2021 season, administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Washington and Lee earned No. 9 in last year's poll, while Christopher Newport's final ranking of 2021 came in at No. 25.  

So far in 2022, the ITA has not made an announcement of current rankings for this season as of this release. 

Sewanee returns to action Sunday, March 6 with a contest against Swarthmore (Pa.) in Chattanooga.
