HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee went back-and forth with Berry in the opening frame. After an
Abby Young three-point play to even the score at 11 points each, Berry knocked down two straight triples to lead 17-11 at the end of the stanza.
-The Purple Tigers was able to shrink the deficit to four points, 28-24, late in the second, but a jumpshot by Elizabeth Sierzant gave the Vikings the six-point advantage, 30-24, at the halftime horn.
-Sewanee saw the deficit as high as nine in the third period, but an 8-1 run by the visitors made it a 36-34 game with 1:25 left. However, the hosts usted a three-point jump shot and a layup to push Berry's lead back to seven, 41-34, at the end of the third.
-The Purple and White used a quick jump shot by
Ellie Treanton to start the final frame to make it a five-point affair, but a 6-0 run after that by the Vikings would be the deciding factor in eliminating the Tigers for the tournament.
-With the win, Berry advances to the semifinals next weekend at Rhodes, where they will take on Oglethorpe, who knocked off 3-seed Birmingham-Southern on the road earlier on Sunday. Rhodes and Centre will play in the other semifinal.
