SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's basketball team suffered a 68-63 decision to the Vikings of Berry College, Sunday afternoon in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest from Juhan Gymnsium.

CLASS OF 2022!
-Prior to tip-off,
Mackie Garwood, who has served the 2022 season as a student assistant coach, was honored on Senior Day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee was able to get the lead up to nine points on three separate occasions in the first half. The third time,
Graham Smith drained a triple to put the Purple Tigers up 28-19 with 6:55 left.
-However, it was the Vikings that had the one-point advantage, 38-37, at the half thanks to a Michael Johnson triple.
-Sewanee eventually reclaimed the lead, 51-48, with less than 10 minutes to go thanks to a three-point play by
Colin Kahl. Berry responded with a 14-0 run to reclaim the lead for good with five minutes left in the contest.
-The Tigers put up a valiant effort late to cut the deficit to 63-60 in the final minutes.
-Berry is receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com poll. Berry and Oglethorpe will play on Wednesday night, and that will decide who will win the SAA Regular Season Championship. Additionally, this will also decide who Sewanee's opponent will be, as the Tigers will enter the tournament as the seven-seed.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Colin Kahl led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting and corralled four rebounds.
-
Tre Corrigan tallied 12 points, including 3-of-6 from downtown, off the bench, while
Russ Marr added 11 points.
BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Austin Brooks led all scorers with 19 points and contributed seven boards for the Vikings.
-Chase Ellis and Michael Johnson each posted 13 points.
UP NEXT
The 2022 Southern Athletic Association Tournament will commence next Sunday, Feb. 20 with the quarterfinal round. Matchups and game times will be announced after the conference schedule concludes on Wednesday.
