HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-On the first pitch of the game, Jake Stank sent one over the right field fence for the solo homer.
-The Ravens also tacked on single runs in the third, fourth and seventh to lead 4-0.
-The Purple and White did out-hit the visitors, 8-7, for the game, but they stranded nine runners on base in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the nightcap, Anderson had no answer for
Logan Martin, as he struck out the side on two occasions in the second and the seventh.
-The Ravens had two opportunities with a runner on third to dent the scoreboard in the third and sixth innings, but Martin was able to get out of the inning on both occasions, as he finished the day 0-for-7 with runners on base.
-Meanwhile, Sewanee also had their fits with the pitching staff of Anderson on offense. In the second, Sewanee left two runners on base and had an opportunity to tack on the first run of the game without the benefit of a hit.
-To the bottom of the seventh, the Purple Tigers finally dented the scoreboard. Thanks to a
Jadon Fetrow free pass to lead off the frame,
TJ Meyn brought home Fetrow to give the Tigers the slight advantage, 1-0, after seven innings.
-The Tigers turned to the bullpen in the eighth, and the Ravens were able to respond. Once again, a leadoff walk started the rally, as Connor Gordon was able to circle the bases and score on a base hit by Justin Reed to even the score at a run apiece.
-Sewanee had the bats going quickly in the bottom half of the eighth thanks to a
Carter Huffman base hit. After
Mike Lewishall pushed him to second on a sacrifice, the Tigers had a golden opportunity to score the go-ahead run, but a fly out and groundout ended the threat.
-Despite the rally cut short by the Tigers in the eighth, the defense came out strong in the top of the ninth, as the Ravens went three-up and three-down on four pitches.
-In the bottom of the ninth, after a Fetrow free pass,
Drew Noblet, on a hit-and-run, was able to reach safely on an infield hit.
-Following a fielder's choice and an Anderson pitching change, the lineup card flipped back to the top of the order and Meyn, who served a ball to left field that found green grass and score Fetrow for the walk-off victory.
