DANVILLE, Ky. - The University of the South men's basketball team extended its winning streak to six games by fending off Centre College, 72-66, from Alumni Gymnasium in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After each team traded buckets to start the game, Sewanee went on an 8-2 run that included the flush from
Colin Kahl after a
Luka Avaliani steal and a
Graham Smith pass.
-Another 7-0 run by the Purple and White with 11 minutes to go in the opening half gave the visitors a double-digit lead, 20-9.
-Both teams went cold for the final three minutes of the first half, but Sewanee took a seven-point lead, 34-27, into the locker room.
-Centre came out of the locker room knocking down shots, as the Colonels started the half on an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to two, 37-35, with 17:37 in the game.
-The Colonels did get the deficit to one, 39-38, on a Drew Wilson 3-pointer but Sewanee went on a 12-3 run to put them ahead by 10.
-The home team made one final push with four minutes left in the contest, but leading 63-60 with four minutes to go, the Purple and White put the game away on a 7-2 run.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Coming off a 50-point performance on Tuesday at Covenant,
Russ Marr posted another strong performance on the road with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting and added four boards and three blocks. In his last four games, Marr has averaged 30 points and has scored 20 or more in each of those contests.
-
Colin Kahl made 8-of-9 from the field and finished with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
-
Luka Avaliani's line involved nine points, five boards, four assists and two steals.
-
Tre Corrigan also dropped nine points and dished out five dimes.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Cade Stinnett recorded 8-of-16 from the floor for 22 points, while Chez Moore had 12 points and 11 boards.
UP NEXT
Turning their attention to final exams, the Tigers will return to the hardwood for the Jack Berkshire Classic, hosted by Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. Sewanee will next face LaGrange for the second time this season in the first game of the tournament on Thursday, Dec. 29 from the Dorough Field House.
