ROME, Ga. - The University of the South volleyball team sees its season come to an end on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Volleyball Tournament, as Oglethorpe University eliminated Sewanee in four sets. The tournament is hosted by the regular season champion, Berry College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Oglethorpe came out swinging to start the match, posted 37 kills to Sewanee's 20 in the first two sets. Additionally, the Petrels had a swing percentage of .252 (37-12-99).
-Sewanee avoided the shutout with a 25-15 third set victory, as the Tigers took advantage of attack errors by the Petrels. Sewanee clinched the set thanks to three straight errors by Oglethorpe's front row.
-However, the Petrels bounced back to clinch the match with a 14-kill performance to win the set, 25-13 and advance to Saturday's semifinals.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Laurel Burkhardt recorded 13 kills on the night and added 10 digs for the double-double.

Olivia Jones added 9.5 points on eight kills and three assisted blocks, while
Adele Cassidy had 28 digs.

Emma Meyer assisted on 28 kills and totaled 15 digs on the night. She also added seven points thanks to five service aces and two assisted blocks.
OGLETHORPE KEY STATISTICS
-Jackie Schner led the Petrel attack with 18 kills and posted 23 digs on defense.
-Ellie Alfonso also had a double-double with 18 digs and 14 kills.
