SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's basketball team used a strong performance from the field to knock off the Mountaineers of Berea College, 78-64, Sunday afternoon inside Juhan Gymansium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite the cold start by both teams, Sewanee was in control from the start. Tied at seven at the 14:42 mark, the Tigers went on a 10-2 run to make it a 17-9 lead at the under-12.
-The Mountaineers would cut the deficit to five at one point, but Sewanee used back-to-back triples by
Colin Kahl and
Rashaun Williams put the lead in double figures.
-Sewanee led 43-36 at the half, and the Tigers pulled away for the win in the second half. After a Trey Minter layup with 13:31 left in the ballgame, the Purple and White scored 11 straight points to get the lead its biggest of the night at that point.
-The Tigers got the lead out to 19 with a
Russ Marr 3-pointer with four and and half minutes left.
-In the second half, Sewanee held Berea to 1-of-16 from downtown, including almost holding them scoreless from beyond the arc until Isaac Caudill's triple with 4:17 left in the game ended the shutout. For the game, the Mountaineers were 5-of-28 (17.9%) from downtown.

Russ Marr recorded a 20-point effort on 8-of-15 from the floor and added eight rebounds and assists each.

Colin Kahl dropped 19 points on a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor, while
Tre Corrigan knocked down five triples and two free throws to total 17 points.
-Corrigan and Luka Availiani each had seven rebounds, while
John Crump dished out six dimes.

-Trey Minter led the Mountaineers with 20 points and added five dimes, while Isaac Caudill posted 15 points and seven boards.

The Tigers will hit the road again this week with two contests away from the Domain. Sewanee's first matchup will be with Covenant on Tuesday night.
