Women's Basketball Drops Home Opener to Asbury

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's basketball team falls in the program's home opener to Asbury University, 85-66, Tuesday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The two teams had great shooting in the first quarter, but turnovers by the Tigers gave the Eagles the 21-13 lead after one quarter of play. 

-The visitors pushed the lead to 12 points, 38-26, after two quarters of play. 

-In the third, Sewanee started the quarter by cutting the deficit to nine points after a field goal and free throws by Kayla Antoine, but Asbury finished the quarter on a 16-4 run to run away with the 19-point victory. 

-The turnover bug bit Sewanee for most of the game, as Asbury totaled 20 steals on the night.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Sewanee, despite the setback, scored a season high in points (66), field goals made (24) and percentage (43.6%), rebounds (41) and assists (16). 

-Olivia Falvey led the Tigers with her first double-digit performance in points as a collegiate basketball player. The Boston, Mass. native dropped 16 points off the bench on 8-of-12 shooting and added seven boards. 

-Kayla Antoine tallied a game-high 18 points thanks to 8-of-9 from the floor and corralled seven boards. 

ASBURY KEY STATISTICS
-Trinity Shearer and Haleigh Releford each scored 15 points to lead the Eagles on tuesday night. Shearer added eight boards and five thefts. 

UP NEXT
The Tigers' four-game homestand continues this weekend with the Sewanee Hoops Classic, as the University of the South will take on Warren Wilson College on Friday night at 7 p.m.
