Despriet, Petty to Play for ITA Cup Doubles Final on Saturday

ROME, Ga. - The University of the South tennis teams played in the second day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup on Friday from the Rome Tennis Center. Leading the day for the Purple and White is the doubles team of Brooke Despriet and Katherine Petty, who will play in the Division III Final on Saturday.

On Friday, the duo played two rounds of the tournament. After winning their Round of 16 match, the duo took on Danna Taylor and Crystal Zhou of Carnegie Mellon (Pa.), The Tiger duo took down the Tartan duo, 6-4, 6-3 early in the day.

In the afternoon, the No. 4 seeded Tigers would battle the top-seed in Shianna Guo and Swlwia Mikos of the University of Chicago (Ill.). However, that would not phase Despriet/Petty, as the team breezed past Guo/Mikos, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to Saturday's final.

This is the third time in program history that a doubles team from the University of the South advanced to the final round of the ITA Cup, which has been around since the 1980s.

On the other side of the bracket, Ansley Carpenter and Alice Hall also advanced to the semis in the Main Draw with a straight-set win over Whitman's (Wash.) Angel Le and Arianna Castellanos Calderon, who was the No. 2 seed in the draw.

In the semis, the duo of Claudia Ng and Perene Wang of Chicago was too much for Hall/Carpenter, 6-1, 6-3.

Despriet/Petty and Ng/Wang will play for all the marbles on Satruday. The start time was yet to be determined at the time of this press release.

After falling in the quarterfinals of the Main Draw in Singles, Alice Hall was back in action in the back draw against Ida Krause of New York University. However, Hall would wrap up her weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 setback to Krause.

On the men's side, Jordan Theron advanced via a withdraw from his opponent, Nolan Shah of Emory. Theron was scheduled to play Abhi Ramireddy of Washington (Mo.), but no score was posted at the time of the release.
