LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The University of the South men's soccer program overcame a first half penalty goal by Covenant College, as the Tigers downed the Scots for their first win of the season, 2-1, Tuesday evening from Scotland Yard.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams traded opportunities back-and-forth, but it was the Scots who struck first in the match. In the 30th minute, after a handball foul in the box by the Tigers, the Scots's Parker Owen struck for a penalty kick goal.
-Despite Covenant having a plethora of changes in the match, Sewanee was able to even the score in the 63rd minute. After a spectacular save by
JP Furman, he made a strong punt to the midfield. After a pass from
Evan Poole, a Covenant defender interfered with the pass and it landed to
Severin Velasco, who struck the back of the net to even the contest at a goal apiece.
-In the 76th minute, after
Trevor Reichman hit the post on his shot attempt,
Mencken Camp collected the rebound and scored the game-winner for the Tigers.
-Each team had its opportunities in Tuesday's match. The Scots outshot the Tigers, 20-12, but it was Sewanee who had the edge in shots on goal, 9-7.
-Sewanee ends a nine-game stretch where they have not registered a win against Covenant. Securing its first victory against the Scots since 1989, the Purple and White won for the first time ever at Scotland Yard, according to acquired records.
