Furman Tabbed SAA Defensive Player of the Week

ATLANTA - Announced on Monday afternoon by the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), junior goalkeeper JP Furman was selected as the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after his performance last week against Covenant and Brevard.

He had four saves in Sewanee's 0-0 draw with defending USA South West Division Champion Brevard this past weekend as he recorded his first clean sheet of 2021. Two of his saves were important in extra time, as he made the stops in the 94th and 107th minutes.

In Sewanee's win over Covenant, the Mandeville, La. native held the Scots scoreless in the second half after a first half goal with four saves. In full time, he totaled six saves.

Finishing 1-0-1 on the week and playing all 200 minutes in goal, Furman had 10 saves and allowed one goal.

So far in 2021, the junior has posted 11 saves and a 1.28 goals against average.

The Tigers return to the pitch Friday night against LeTourneau (Texas) from Puett Field. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m., following the women's soccer match against the Yellow Jackets.
