TEMPE, Ariz. - Announced on Friday, June 18 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA),
Emma Smith of the University of the South women's tennis program has been selected as a Singles All-America honoree.
Smith, a sophomore from Mount Pleasant, S.C. posted a 9-4 record in the 2021 season and finished ninth in the final national poll in singles, announced by the ITA last week.
Additionally, she secured the honor after winning two matches in the 2021 NCAA Singles Championships and finishing the tournament as a quarterfinalist.
In the postseason, she took down Erika Oku of Kenyon, the overall 5-seed in the tournament, in the first round and Madeleine Paolucci of Case Western Reserve in the Round of 16. Smith became the fourth women's tennis player at the University of the South to advance to the quarterfinals of the individual championships.
ITA All-Americans are given to student-athletes that are a top 8 seed in the NCAA singles tournament, win one round at the NCAA singles tournament, or finish in the top 20 in the final Oracle ITA Rankings.
