Women’s Lacrosse Wins Senior Night Contest over Panthers

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's lacrosse team posted an 18-13 victory over Birmingham-Southern College, Tuesday evening from Puett Field.

CLASS OF 2021!
-At halftime, the program honored its six seniors: Mallory Bedell, Logan Bulls, Amanda Jenkins, Caroline Roncalli, Emily Stallings and Sarah Strand.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee netted the first three goals of the game in the first five minutes. Hattie Fogarty made the assist on all three strikes.

-After BSC scored with 24:20 to go in the opening half, Sewanee would respond with two more goals in almost a 30-second span to lead 5-1.

-Leading 5-2 with almost 21:50 left in the half, Fogarty started the team's 7-0 run with back-to-back goals. Later, Raleigh Cooper put the contest out of reach with consecutive goals to put the Purple and White up 12-2 with less than nine minutes in the half en route to a 14-4 halftime score.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Sarah Strand netted her 100th career goal on Tuesday with 19:25 remaining in the opening half. The Natick, Mass. native becomes the sixth player in program history to eclipse the century mark in goals. On the night, she finished with five goals and won eight draw controls.

Raleigh Cooper and Hattie Fogarty each added three goals. Fogarty added five assists for a total of eight points.

-Mallory Bedell scored four points and three assists and a goal.

-Logan Bulls won five draws and forced three turnovers.

Between Amanda Jenkins (2-2) and Caroline Roncalli, the duo stopped seven shots each in goal, as the keepers each played one half between the pipes.

BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Sydney Riley led the Panthers with four goals, while Lizzie La Vangie and Marissa Henderson each posted a hat trick.

-Grace Lee Paden (4-5) recorded three saves in the first half, but Jordyn Davidson posted 12 saves in the second half.
