Cathell Earns Win Number One with Sewanee; Women's Soccer Blanks Berea

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's soccer program opened the regular season portion of the spring 2021 schedule with a clean sheet of Berea College, 2-0, Sunday afternoon from Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers netted the first goal of the spring at the 13th minute. Olivia Rhodes was in the right spot at the right time. After Berea claimed possession in the Sewanee box, Rhodes intercepted the ball and struck the bottom of the net for the score.

-Five minutes into the second half, the Purple and White struck again. After Kiera Giacomini attempted to score, the ball deflected off the Mountaineer keeper and found Mimi Davis, who punched the ball into the goal to give the hosts the 2-0 advantage.

-Sewanee dominated for the 90 minutes on the pitch, posting 11 shots on goal while allowing Berea to just three.

WIN #1 FOR CATHELL
-Greg Cathell, Sewanee's 11th coach in the history of the women's soccer program, secured his first win with the Tigers on Sunday. Hired over a year ago, Cathell now holds a 49-33-11 overall record in his sixth season as a collegiate head coach.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Addie Roemershauser posted five total shots, three on target.

-Olivia Rhodes and Mimi Davis scored for Sewanee, both off deflections by Berea defenders.

-Hanna Judycki (1-0) saved two shots for the Tigers in the first half, and Abigail Frazier helped secure the clean sheet.

BEREA KEY STATISTICS
-Naomi Scott led the Mountaineers with two shots.

-Perris Colemon-Harville (0-7) recorded nine saves for Berea.

Sewanee will next square off with Motlow State on Tuesday evening.
