Men’s Tennis Cruises to Weekend Sweep of BSC

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The No. 21 University of the South men's tennis program earned its first wins of the 2021 season with identical 8-1 victories over Birmingham-Southern on Friday and Saturday.

Sewanee improves to 35-11 all-time versus Birmingham-Southern. Since the Panthers joined Division III in 2008, the Tigers are 12-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED, FRIDAY
-Sewanee won two of three doubles matches to take the 2-1 match lead. Thomas Harrison/Ryan Wax rolled to an 8-1 win at the No. 3 point.

-The Tigers made it easy with a sweep of singles play. Matt Barnett played to a third set at the No. 1 point. After falling 7-6(4) in the opening set, the sophomore rallied to win the next two sets, 6-2 and 10-3.

-Noah Holsclaw and Jax Harbour each recorded shutouts in singles for the Purple and White.

HOW IT HAPPENED, SATURDAY
-Similar to Friday, Sewanee took two of three in doubles play before winning all six points in singles.

-Holsclaw and Olps recorded identical 6-1, 6-0 set wins at the No. 2 and 3 points, respectively.

-Harbour secured his second straight shutout in as many days with his win at the No. 5 point.
