ROME, Ga. - The third time's the charm for the University of the South volleyball program on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Volleyball Tournament. After losing both matches to Centre College in the regular season, both five-set affairs, the Purple and White opened the postseason with a four-set victory over the Colonels from The Cage Center on the campus of Berry College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee edged Centre with a 25-23 victory in the opening set. The Tigers made it a 2-0 lead thanks to a 25-17 score. The Colonels made it a 19-17 contest, but the Purple and White ended the frame on a 6-0 run.
-Despite Sewanee having an early 7-2 lead in the third set, Centre had a 12-4 run at one point to avoid the shutout, 25-22.
-The fourth set was a true back-and-forth bout. After Centre won three straight points to cut the deficit to 22-19, the Tigers roared back to win the final three points to take the match and advance.

Laurel Burkhardt matched her career-high in kills with 14 to lead the Tigers.

Lilly Reilly added 13 kills and eight digs, while
Ashley Crosby also had a career day with a new high in kills with 12.

Adele Cassidy matched her career-best in digs with 28, while
Anna Ball and
Lexi Williams added 14 and 12, respectively.

-Katie Hall led the Colonels with a 13-kill performance, while Madi Barron added 17 digs.
