Football Celebrates Senior Day

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South football concluded the 2021 season on Saturday from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium with a 56-10 defeat to the Hendrix College Warriors.

CLASS OF 2022
-Prior to kickoff, 14 football seniors were recognized: Grayson Baker, Oliver Bateman, Max Beverly, Zach Bryan, Cody Deal, Parker Hughes, Peter Irwin, Will Irwin, Warren Matthews, Cyrus McCullough, Henry Proctor, Sean Ross, Zachary Swafford and Jacob Viccari.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Hendrix was able to score on its first possession of the game and led 14-0 after one quarter of play as Colton Phillips had touchdown receptions of 13 and 31 yards. 

-Early in the second quarter, a fumble by Hendrix with the runner in motion gave Quinn Johnson the opportunity to pick it up and run it back 33 yards to the visitor 21-yard line. 

-The Purple and White were able to get points on the board after the fumble, thanks to Jack Satterfield's 38 yard field goal. 

-However, the Warriors rallied to score two more touchdowns to lead 28-3 at the break. In the third, the visitors broke the contest wide open with a 49-3 after 45 minutes of play. 

-The Tigers tacked on a fourth quarter score as Grayson Baker posted a 50-yard touchdown reception from Cade Golden. 

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Cade Golden posted 79 passing yards, including the 50-yard score by Grayson Baker. 

-Tucker Kirk tallied 45 yards on 17 carries. 

-Jacob Jackson recorded a career-best 18 tackles on the day, while Will Irwin posted eight stops and a quarterback hurry. 

-Quinn Johnson had a fumble recovery, while Tyler Wright and Joseph Conwell each had a breakup. 

HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Hunter Holden posted four passing touchdowns and finished with 17-of-22 with 281 yards. Colton Phillips posted 116 receiving yards and two scores. 

-Anthony Johnson led the running game with 95 yards on 17 carries.
