SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South volleyball team dropped the upset to Birmingham-Southern College, who are receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, in straight sets, Saturday afternoon from Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee and Birmingham-Southern traded points back-and-forth in the opening set, but thanks to a
Lydia Goffi kill, the Tigers took the opener, 25-23, as they out-attacked the Panthers, 17-11.
-In the second set, thanks to a 10-0 run, the Purple and White cruised to a set victory of 25-14. The Tigers used an attack percentage of .458 (13-3-24).
-The Tigers completed the sweep of Birmingham-Southern with a 25-17 victory as the hosts secured the match with back-to-back attack errors.
-Sewanee records just the second win over Birmingham-Southern in program history, with the previous victory coming on Oct. 18, 2014 in a five-set battle.

Laurel Burkhardt recorded 10 kills on the day, while
Lydia Goffi added nine kills on 16 total attacks without committing an error.

Ellie Pedersen also played errorless ball with eight kills on 18 swings, while
Olivia Jones also added eight kills and a .500 attack percentage (8-1-16).

Adele Cassidy led the Purple and White with 14 digs, with
Lilly Reilly adding 13 and three aces.
-The Tigers posted a .276 attack percentage on the day (44-15-105), marking the worst percentage for a Panther opponent in league play this season and the third-worst percentage overall.

-Kennedy Dickens led the Panthers with 10 kills, while Kate Powell added 16 digs.
