Swim and Dive Teams Open 2018-19 Campaign Thursday Night

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee swimming and diving teams suffered a sweep to the hands of Centre College Thursday night from the Fowler Center Pool.

MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS
-In the 200-yard medley, Carl Failing, Lee Haber, James Hoyt and Anthony Carbone finished three seconds ahead of the Centre quartet with a 1:38.47 time.

-Hoyt opened his season with a win in the 1,000 free, finishing with a 10:23.07 mark.

-Carbone claimed two wins on Thursday for his first wins as a collegiate swimmer. In the 200 breaststroke, he finished with a 2:13.69 time, and in the 200 free, he posted a 1:45.54 time to win the event.

-Failing sprinted in the 50-yard free to 22.07 seconds, winning the event by 0.35 seconds.

-Haber edged Max Shoyat by 0.33 seconds with a 1:59.63 clip in the 200 individual medley. In the 500 free, the sophomore was the only one to finish under five minutes with a 4:56.37 mark.

WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS
-The quartet of Kate Mabry, Gabby Acker, Bonnie Wakefield and Annie Heller won the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:53.64 time.

-Mabry also collected top honors in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.29) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.46) for her first two individual wins as a collegiate student-athlete.

-In the 200 breaststroke, Acker finished 0.46 seconds ahead of Maddie Hall to win the event with a time of 2:33.17 for her first collegiate win.

-Noel Whitlock took home the victory in the one- and three-meter dives with scores of 234 and 238.90, respectively.

Sewanee will next compete at the Sewanee Invitational Oct. 26-27.
