Tigers Drop Season Opener to Covenant

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Sewanee volleyball team falls to Covenant College in straight sets in the season opener at the Birmingham-Southern McAttack Bash in the Bill Battle Coliseum Friday night.

The Tigers rallied in the first set, but the Scots (1-0) took the first set, 25-22. After Covenant took the next set, 25-9, Sewanee (0-1) rallied for a third set battle, but the Scots prevailed with a 26-24 win to seal the sweep.

Destiny Stewart led the Tigers with a game-high eight kills and 11 digs, while Olivia Nichols and Rebecca Rowan each recorded four kills.

Peyton Parent finished the contest with game-high 21 digs.

Jessica Seehorn pounded out eight kills, while Schuyler Moore posted seven kills for the Scots in the win.

Sewanee will wrap up the McAttack Bash on Saturday with a doubleheader. The Tigers will take on Washington & Lee at 10 a.m before wrapping up the weekend with Maryville (Tenn.) at 4 p.m.
