CONWAY, Ark. (April 22, 2017) – The No. 16 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team punched its fifth straight ticket into the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship match with a perfect 5-0 win against Birmingham-Southern, Saturday.
The Tigers improved to 18-5 othis season.
Sewanee opened with three wins in doubles. At No. 2, Christina Merchant and Ellie Czura dominated Isabella Wisener and Mary Evelyn Carroll, 8-0. That was followed by a strong 8-1 victory from Bea Benavides and Sara Thompson against Bonnie Lioce and Lexie Dillard at No. 3.
The final win came from Clementina Davila and Darby Duval at No. 1. The Tiger duo defeated Carlee Petro and Emily Whitlock, 8-4.
In singles, Sewanee completed the victory as Maggie Crumbliss defeated Carroll with a pair of 6-1 set wins and Merchant topped Whitlock 6-1, 6-2.
