No. 16 Sewanee opens SAA Tournament with a 5-0 win against rival Rhodes

CONWAY, Ark. (April 21, 2017) – The No. 16 Sewanee women's tennis team continued to dominate Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament matches with a perfect 5-0 quarterfinal win against rival Rhodes, Friday.

The nationally-ranked Tigers are now 16-5 overall and still have never lost an SAA match in program history.

Sewanee opened as Clementina Davila and Darby Duval outlasted Caroline Doherty and Madeleine McDonald at No. 1, 9-7. Christina Merchant and Ellie Czura teamed up for an 8-0 win over Morgan Wilkins and Natalie Arnold at No. 2 while Sara Thompson and Bea Benavides also earned an 8-0 win against Sara Lynn Abbott and Mary Mullen at No. 3.

In singles, Haley Tucker defeated Abbott at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2 while Abbie Vaughn won by default at No. 6.
