No. 14 Tigers split against No. 28 Redlands and No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. (March 19, 2017) – The No. 14 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team split matches this weekend against No. 28 Redlands and No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Tigers first topped Redlands 7-2 before falling Sunday against CMS, 8-1.

Sewanee earned the victory at Redlands, Saturday. In that contest, Sewanee earned two doubles wins. At No. 2 Ellie Czura and Christina Merchant defeated Emily Muruia and Jackie Lacy 8-5. At No. 3 Maggie Crumbliss and Darby Duval topped Claire Bohoskey 8-4.

In singles, Clementina Davila defeated Sarah Ikioka in straight sets 6-4, 7-6. Merchant then rolled over Muruia at No. 2 with a pair of 6-3 set wins.

At No. 3, Czura continued her winning streak with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Elizabeth Johnson while at No. 4, Crumbliss defeated Katie Dolan 6-2, 6-2.

Finally, Duval won at No. 6 in a long 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Madison Ross.

In the match against the Athenas, Meredith Heitland earned a 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 win over Juliette Martin at No. 6. CMS won all other matches.

Sewanee quickly returns to action during its spring break trip with a 9:00 a.m. (PDT) contest against St. Lawrence in Malibu, Calif.
