SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2017) – The No. 13 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Transylvania, Saturday, on the Guerry Tennis courts.
Sewanee is now 3-0 this season. The Tigers have outscored their first three opponents by a combined score of 26-1. The Tigers return to action with a match against LaGrange, Sunday.
Sewanee opened as the No. 3 doubles team of Meredith Heitland and Abbie Vaughn won 8-0. Maggie Crumbliss and Sara Thompson earned an 8-0 victory at No. 1 while Bea Benavides and Maura McCrary crushed Lucy Herrington and Emily Fulkerson at No. 2, 8-1.
Sewanee then earned straight set victories in every singles match. At No. 1, Taylor Childress defeated Mary Grace Amato 6-0, 6-1 while at No. 2 Crumbliss blanked Herrington 6-0, 6-0.
Thompson then topped Bruther at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0 while Benavides and Heitland both earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
Finally, Vaughn had little trouble against Madison Miles at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
