Thomas scores a career high as Sewanee snaps losing streak with an 82-70 win at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. (Feb. 10, 2017) – Freshman Adrian Thomas scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the Sewanee men's basketball team to an 82-70 win at Hendrix, Friday, inside Grove Gymnasium.

Thomas finished 9-for-14 overall and was an impressive 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Alongside Thomas, senior Brody Stone posted a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double. In fact, four of the Tigers five starters finished in double figures. Senior Jorden Williams added 17 points while Hunter Buescher pitched in 12 points.

As a team, Sewanee made 50 percent of its shots. That included a 40 percent mark outside the three-point line. By comparison, Hendrix made 43.5 percent of its shots. The Warriors did struggle outside the three-point line making only 25.0 percent of their attempts. 

Individually, Hank Aldous led Hendrix with 24 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Preston Smith was the only other Warrior in double figures with 19 points.

Down as much as nine points in the first half, Sewanee battled back and tied the game at 37-37 by halftime. 

In the final 20 minutes, Sewanee took over. By the 8:22 mark, the Tigers built their largest lead, 12 points, after a pair of Thomas free throws. Hendrix pulled to within single digits a few times down the stretch, however, Sewanee answered with key shots from Thomas, Williams, and Cam Caldwell.

Now 6-6 in SAA action and 13-10 overall, Sewanee returns to action at Rhodes, Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
