Behind Lee's career-high, Sewanee outpaces rival Rhodes 111-101

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 15, 2017) The Sewanee men's basketball team received 54 points from its reserves, which included a career-high 21 points from sophomore Matthew Lee, as the Tigers outpaced rival Rhodes 111-101, Sunday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

Lee finished 7-of-11 from the floor to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Along with Lee, senior Brody Stone finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Stone, who now has over 500 career rebounds, also finished with 17 boards on Friday.

Senior Jorden Williams (20), sophomore Adrian Thomas (13), and senior Clay Born (11) also finished in double figures.

In a game that featured 10 ties and 10 lead changes, Sewanee dominated inside with 50 points in the paint. The Tigers also shot 55.9 percent overall, which included a 44.4 three-point field-goal percentage.

With the scored tied at 84-84 a three by Williams gave the Tigers the lead for good. From there, Rhodes pulled to within a possession three more times.

Down the stretch, a layup by Tyler Gee with 2:04 left cut the Tiger lead to 101-99. However, a dunk by Lee and a layup by Clay Born pushed the Tiger lead back to four. From there, late free throws by Williams, Stone, and Hunter Buescher sealed the win.

Anesu Nyawata led Rhodes with 20 points. The Lynx, who played 16 players, had only two players in double figures. Gee was the other with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Sewanee returns to action with an 8:00 p.m. contest at Millsaps, Friday.
