Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Sept. 7, 2016) – Three second-half goals helped host Covenant to a 3-2 comeback win over the Sewanee women's soccer team, Tuesday, at Scotland Yard.
The loss is the second straight for the Tigers after Sewanee started the year 2-0-0. Covenant is now 1-1-0 early in 2016. The Lady Scots have now defeated the Tigers the last two seasons. After losing a year ago to Covenant, Sewanee did not lose again in the 2015 regular season.
After a back and forth opening 40 minutes, Sewanee scored first right before halftime, as senior Tyler Edell tipped in a shot by classmate Tasha Saunders.
The score remained in favor of Sewanee until two minutes off the clock in the second half. With Covenant in possession, Anna Porch played a ball to Savanna Cingilli. Cingilli then ripped home a shot from 17 yards out which tied the score at 1-1.
Four minutes later, Cingilli was at it again. The Covenant forward converted a shot from 20 yards out off an outstanding pass from teammate Summer Bader.
Suddenly down 2-1, Sewanee answered back. After an offside call on Covenant, the Tigers quickly countered through the midfield. From around 16 yards out, sophomore Dayla LaRocque found senior Shelby Meckstroth in front of the goal. The New Orleans, La., native did the rest, ripping a shot past Covenant's Rachel Lemay which tied the contest at 2-2.
Unfortunately, the score did not remain tied long as Covenant netted the game-winner less than three minutes later. Off a corner kick, Hannah King found the ball rolling around in the box and fired home her attempt, which sealed the victory for the Lady Scots.
Overall, Sewanee edged Covenant in attempts 13-10. The Tigers did dominate in corners, 5-1.
Despite not scoring, sophomore Erin Gill led the purple and gold attack with three shots. Meckstroth and Edell each pitched in two attempts.
The Tigers continue their early season six-match road trip with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Hardin-Simmons in San Antonio, Texas, Friday.
