Box Score ATLANTA (Sept. 21, 2016) – Despite an outstanding effort, the Sewanee men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at regional-rival Emory, Wednesday.
The Eagles netted the lone goal of the match when Jason McCartney crossed the ball into the box where Adam Ferguson buried the game-winner in the 14th minute.
Despite being outshot 21-8, Sewanee kept fighting to the end. With under a minute to play, the Tigers had a great opportunity to tie the match when a diving Jake Deuel stopped Zach Birkhead's close shot. On the ensuing corner kick, another near attempt was turned away when Deuel came up with another big save.
From there, the Eagles were able to clear the ball until time expired.
Overall, Matt Hawse and Marco Randazzo each led the Tiger attack with two shots. In goal, keeper Will Merriman finished with six saves.
After eight non-conference matches since starting the season on September 1st, the Tigers will open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with a noon (EST) contest at Berry, Saturday.
