SEWANEE, Tenn. (Aug. 4, 2016) – Former Sewanee women's tennis student-athlete Lindsey Liles, C'16, has become the 34th Tiger student-athlete to receive a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletic competition.
Over her career, Liles embodied the definition of an NCAA Division III student-athlete. Off the court, the Little Rock, Ark., native graduated with a 4.06 grade point average (GPA) in biology and English. Earlier this summer, Liles also became Sewanee's third-ever College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American.
On the court, Liles left Sewanee as one of its all-time greats. The 2016 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Tennis Player of the Year was an ITA All-American in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.
This past spring, Liles finished ranked 16th nationally in singles, while alongside teammate Clementina Davila, the Tiger duo ranked fifth in doubles after their run into the NCAA Doubles quarterfinals. Their ranking was the highest in program history since Cameron Tyer and Becky Jo Doncaster finished fourth and reached the NCAA Doubles semifinals in 1993.
Additionally, Liles was a four-time All-SAA selection and a four-time All-SAA Academic Honor Roll performer.
Liles joins her sister, Jenny, C'13, as one of four women's tennis players to earn this prestigious honor. A year ago, Bronte Goodhue, C'15, was named an NCAA Postgraduate winner. Along with the Liles sisters and Goodhue, Jordan Casey, C'09, was the other women's tennis player to win the award.
With 34 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, Sewanee ranks among the nation's leading institutions in any NCAA division. Seven Tigers have been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship since 2013.
Created in 1964, NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. There are 29 male and 29 female student-athletes honored, with each receiving $7,500.
